Sentences and Fragments:

Recognize the difference between sentences and fragments.

A SENTENCE is a group of words that express a complete thought.

Example: The dog ran down the street.

A FRAGMENT is a group of words that do not express a complete thought.

Example: The man in the house.

Writing:  This week we will continue writing journal entries. A journal entry describes your thoughts and experiences during a day in your life.

 Simple/Compound Sentences

Simple

The boy walked down the street.

Simple Subject= boy ( The  simple subject is the main word that tells exactly who or what the sentence is about.)

  Simple Predicate = walked  (The simple predicate is the main word that tells exactly what the subject is or does—the verb or action word)

Compound Sentences combine two sentences with related information.

 The boy walked down the street.  His friends walked down the street.  

Compound sentence= The boy and his friends walked down the street.

Assignment: Students all over the world helped to raise money to repair the Statue of Liberty. Think of a way to raise money for a project. Write a paragraph persuading people to go along with your idea. Include at least two compound sentences in your paragraphs.  You may submit your answer in the comment section .
